Newbery Challenge: Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH

I can’t wait to see what my good buddy, Mr. Schu, had to say about Mrs. Frisby. I hope he liked it as much as I did.

A big thanks to Donalyn Miller for joining me in this Newbery video (and to Brian and Jen for working the camera and the blinds).

  1. Fun interview! Again, I’m so jealous of everyone who got to go to NCTE in Vegas! So many amazing people there. Maybe I can go to Boston next year. Anyway, my memory of Mrs. Frisby is of 7th grade and my English teacher reading it aloud. She was very progressive – no one else in the upper grades (except my beloved h.s. English teacher later, who read A Day No Pigs Would Die aloud) read aloud to us, and I still LOVED being read aloud to. I remember being captivated by that story!

  2. I adore this book! My second-grade teacher, Mrs. Klein, read this to our class. The movie version, THE SECRET OF NIMH, was my first disappointment as far as books to movies go.

Read this with my boys a few years ago. What a treat!
